Green tea can prevent osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease and it can be incredibly painful. The disease weakens bones and can lead to sudden fractures and breakages. Visit: www.indianclinicalknowledge.com Women are four times more likely than men to develop osteoporosis because they have lighter and thinner bones than men. They also live for longer.

Shocking health fact: Studies into the benefits of green tea have found that this herbal drink contains chemicals that can stimulate bone growth.Interestingly, it has also been suggested that compounds within green tea inhibit bone resorption, which weakens bones. If you’re not a fan of green tea you could always add some honey to a cup of the herbal drink, or try flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil has also been found to help those at risk of developing osteoporosis because it contains fatty acids that positively affect bone density.

SABBATICAL

Exploring self and purpose

Most people give little thought to the questions such as “Who am I?” or “What is the purpose of my life?”, or put another way “What gives meaning to my life?” These questions have a way of getting more important as we grow older. At the same time, we have busy lives with responsibilities and little free time for contemplation. For many people, the best way to generate enough space to tackle these questions is to take a sabbatical - a break from the everyday pressures of work. Ideally a sabbatical is a time of deep inner contemplation.
Another reason people take sabbaticals is because they know that their current career path has run it’s course. Perhaps they have grown, and are discovering a fresh set of values which are not fully honored in their current work. Whatever the underlying cause, they know that they need to change the way they work: that sticking with their current course will lead to stagnation and death of the soul. taking a sabbatical is a way to express the commitment to change, to finding a new way of making a living that is more in line with their values - more of a vocation.

Hydrogels in baby diapers. Are they safe??

What are hydrogels?

Hydrogels are man-made substances that absorb water and hold it in the form of a gel. They're used in disposable diapers, sanitary pads, breast pads, wound dressings, breast implants, and contact lenses. Hydrogels are also used to thicken products such as bubble bath and lotions and give them a silky, moisturizing feel.

The hydrogel most commonly used in diapers is sodium polyacrylate. It's added to the core of disposable diapers to soak up urine and keep moisture away from a baby's skin, helping to prevent diaper rash. If you cut open a dry diaper, you'll find lots of small beads mixed in with a fluffy pulp. These beads can hold up to 30 times their weight in urine. You might see some of these gel beads on your baby's skin if a very full diaper breaks open.

How does the hydrogel sodium polyacrylate get into the body?

Because of its chemical structure, sodium polyacrylate can't be absorbed through the skin.

Are hydrogels dangerous?

There's no evidence that skin contact with sodium polyacrylate causes any serious problems. The study most often used to argue that hydrogel is dangerous found it was toxic only when injected directly into a rat's vein or body cavity. When hydrogel was injected just below a rat's skin, it wasn't toxic. Only the surface of your baby's skin is likely to come into contact with the gel.

There have been reports of allergic skin reactions to disposable diapers, and some parents worry that this is caused by the gel, but it's not likely. A 2008 report in the journal Clinics in Dermatology cited only one recent case of a possible allergic skin reaction to sodium polyacrylate, and that was in an adult using an incontinence pad. The authors note that very few babies have allergic reactions to anything in their diapers.

Finally, some of the concerns in the media about hydrogels are a case of mistaken identity: Polyacrylate, used in diapers, is sometimes confused with polyacrylamide, a different hydrogel used in horticulture and gardening.
